Henna creates protective coating around the hair. It makes hair thicker and stronger. It is a protein treatment for hair, and if applied regularly, it promotes hair growth, making hair feeling soft and looking shiny.
Pure henna only dyes hair warm-red. To create different colours, such as burgundy, dark brown or black, use henna together with other natural products (Hibiscus, Indigo, Amla, etc.).
Indigo powder can be used to dye your hair black or different shades of brown. The shade is determined by the ratio of henna and indigo in the mixture and by the method of application. To achieve black colour, use indigo mixed with water right after you've dyed your hair with henna. Adding indigo directly into the henna mixture before application will produce different shades of brown.
BEFORE APPLICATION:
Pure henna and indigo are natural products for hair colouring. Always use indigo WITH or AFTER henna. If used on its own, indigo will produce green or blue colour. If you had recently used chemical dye on your hair, please wait for at least 4 weeks before using henna and indigo. Chemical dyes contain metallic salts and other harsh substances that may react with these herbal dyes and produce an unwanted colour.
HOW TO APPLY:
To apply indigo AFTER henna:
Mix henna powder with tea, coffee, lemon juice or other acidic liquids. You should get a paste with a consistency of thick yoghurt. Allow mixture to cure for a few hours in a warm place (can be done overnight).
Apply henna on clean hair and leave for up to 4 hours depending on the desired result. Wash off with warm water. Do not shampoo for 24 hours as during this time henna pigment will oxide and colour will still be developing. If necessary, use conditioner to wash henna powder off your hair.
Mix organic indigo powder with water and apply to your hair right after washing henna off. Indigo mixture should not be left to cure and should be applied to hair straight away. Leave for 30-60 minutes depending on the desired colour depth.
To wash off, do not shampoo, but use water with a bit of conditioner, if necessary.
To apply indigo TOGETHER with henna:
Add indigo powder into the cured henna mixture RIGHT BEFORE USE. Make a strand test to determine how much indigo you need to add and how long you need to keep the mixture on your hair to achieve the desired shade.
To wash off, do not shampoo, but use water with a bit of conditioner, if necessary.
